I have now the honour to request Your Lordship's approval of this arrangement which has been completed through the consideration of the Major General in acquiescing in the wish that Mr Me Clardy's services should be wholly lent to this Government, until Your Lordship had appointed Mr. Moorson's Successor.

3.

I enclose a copy of the Assistant Military Secretary's letter containing the Major General's concurrence in the appointment (Lieutenant Me Clardy as Acting Surveyor General).

The Salary which I have apportioned to Mr. Me Clardy is at the rate of £800 per annum.

Being wholly lent for civil duties, he is entitled to draw more than his regimental pay and allowances; and I have therefore placed him on the same footing as the Assistant Surveyor General (whose salary is £700 per annum) who, having been temporarily promoted, was entitled to half his pay and half that of the Officer whom he succeeded.

I have every reason to be satisfied that the work of the Survey Department will be well and thoroughly carried out under Mr. Me Clardy.
